Commission to issue waste warning to member states
The European Commission is to issue a number of member states with warnings for their failure to implement EU waste legislation correctly and within the prescribed timescale.
Italy, France, Germany, Greece and Cyprus could be referred to the EU Court of Justice if they do not comply with the Commission’s demands within a two-month period.
Cyprus and Greece both have landfill sites that do not comply with EU legislation; France’s definition of packaging and packaging waste does to comply with the EU Packaging Directive; Germany has missed the 2010 deadline for transposing the revised Waste Framework Directive into national law; and Italy has not fully transposed the EU Mining Waste Directive.
